Opening Of Fort Canning Tunnel
The Fort Canning Tunnel (FCT) will be opened to traffic on Tuesday, 16 January 2007 at 6.00am.
Relocation Of Bus Stops
In conjunction with its opening, the bus stop along Stamford Road (near Singapore History Museum) will be shifted to the realigned Stamford Road (near Singapore Management University), while the bus stop along Penang Road in front of Park Mall will be shifted to the opposite side of the road (see attached map).
New Traffic Scheme In The Vicinity
The FCT allows traffic coming from Stamford Road, just after its intersection with Armenian Street, to connect directly to Penang Road.
The section of Stamford Road between Armenian Street and Fort Canning Road will be realigned to run between two SMU buildings (School of Accountancy and Li Ka Shing Library).
Motorists travelling along Stamford Road, heading towards Selegie Road, Serangoon Road and Fort Canning Road, will have to keep right along Stamford Road, and turn right into the realigned Stamford Road.
Operation Of ERP Gantry
To maintain the Orchard Zone ERP cordon, an ERP gantry has been installed at the end of the FCT tunnel so that motorists using this route as a direct access from the CBD into the Orchard ERP Zone, bypassing the gantry currently at the entrance to the Orchard ERP Zone, will continue to be charged for entering the Orchard ERP cordon, as before, and at the same rates.
Motorists are advised to insert their cash cards in advance and drive carefully by following the directional signs on display.
