     Former Cabinet stalwart Lim Kim San dies

Former Cabinet minister Lim Kim San died at home yesterday. He was 89.
Mr Lim is best remembered as the man who brought affordable high-quality public housing to the masses.
In the 1960's, as the first Chairman of the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and subsequently as Minister for National Development, Mr Lim helped the Government shape the public housing landscape in Singapore.
Here are his milestones*:
1916 Was born in Singapore on 30 November.
1933 Finished Senior Cambridge at Anglo Chinese School (ACS)
1936 Enrolled in Raffles College
1940 Married Miss Pang Gek Kim
1950 Made his first million dollars
1960 Became HDB Chairman
1962 Awarded Order of Temasek
1963 Became Minister for National Development
1967 - 1979 Headed various ministries - Interior & Defence, Education, Environment, Communications
1979 - 1994 Appointed Chairman of Port of Singapore Authority (PSA)
1980 Retired from politics
1992 Appointed Chairman, Council of Presidential Advisers
2003 - 2005 Became Senior Adviser, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH)
Mr Lim is survived by his sons, Lim Kiat Seng & Lim Kiat Beng, and daughters, Lim Eng Tin, Lim Siu Tin & Lim Siu Horng. His wife died in 1994.
The wake will be held at his residence, 81 Dalvey Road. The funeral will be on Sunday 23 Jul 2006.

DEMISE OF FORMER CABINET MINISTER MR LIM KIM SAN

1. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues are sad to learn of the passing of Mr Lim Kim San and wish to convey their condolences to his family. Mr Lim passed away peacefully at his home at 5:38 pm this evening.

2. As a mark of respect to Mr Lim, one of Singapore¨s founding fathers, the State flag on all Government buildings will be flown at half-mast on the day of his funeral, i.e. Sunday, 23 July 2006.

3. The Government will assist the family in making the funeral arrangements. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will deliver a eulogy at the funeral service.
