Jobs requiring professional and specialist
skills continue to command higher salaries, reflecting the premium
employers place on knowledge and skills. |
|
In June 2005, professionals received the
highest median commencing gross wage at $2,500 per month followed by
technicians and associate professionals at $1,703. |
|
New entrants in less skilled jobs started at
lower wages eg. clerks at $1,335, sales and service workers at $1,100,
plant and machine operators at $1,250 and cleaners and labourers at
$755. |
|
Among employees across all years of
experience, the median gross wage ranged from $1,000 for cleaners and
labourers to $5,699 for managers. |
|
These were the findings of the Ministry of
Manpower¡¯s `Report on Wages in Singapore, 2005¡¯. |
|
The Report presents comprehensive
information on wages, such as wage changes and bonuses paid in various
industries, as well as salaries of over 300 occupations. |
|
The report also includes information on the
extent to which employers have restructured their wage systems, in line
with the recommendations of the Tripartite Taskforce on Wage
Restructuring. |
|
Besides the `Report on Wages in
Singapore, 2005¡¯, MOM¡¯s Manpower Research and Statistics
Department has published two other annual statistical
publications, namely the ¡®Singapore Yearbook of Manpower
Statistics, 2006¡¯ and ¡®Manpower Statistics in Brief, 2006¡¯. The
information provided will help job-seekers, employers and
employees make better informed decisions on career and human
resource matters. |

The ¡®Singapore Yearbook of Manpower
Statistics, 2006¡¯ provides a wide range of statistics on the labour
market situation. These include key data on labour force, job
vacancies, retrenchments, labour turnover, wages, hours worked,
employment conditions, labour relations, industrial safety, higher
education and skills training. |
|
The ¡®Manpower Statistics in Brief,
2006¡¯ summarises key data from ¡®Report on Wages in Singapore,
2005¡¯ and the ¡®Singapore Yearbook of Manpower Statistics, 2006¡¯ in
a pocket-sized booklet. |
|
The three annual statistical
publications can be downloaded free of charge from the Ministry of
