Expanding The Rail Network With Downtown Extension

The Government has decided to extend the MRT system into the Downtown at Marina Bay (DTMB).
At 3.4-km long, the fully underground Downtown Extension (DTE) with five stations, will run from the Circle Line's Millenia Station at Temasek Avenue, through DTMB and along Cross Street to link up with the North East Line's Chinatown Station.
The details of the DTE stations are as follows:

The DTE is a key infrastructure to support the development of DTMB - a total live-work-play environment comprising a business and financial hub, residential developments, and attractive shopping, leisure and entertainment facilities.
It will improve the accessibility of DTMB, and provide an essential transport link to the Central Business District and other parts of Singapore through the interchange stations at Circle Line's Millenia Station and North East Line's Chinatown Station.
Construction of the DTE is estimated to cost $1.4 billion. The line has been planned such that its design and construction can be integrated and carried out in tandem with the developments in the DTMB. No private land will be acquired for the implementation of this project.
LTA will conduct engineering studies of the areas that DTE runs through before calling tenders for civil construction works. Based on preliminary assessment, DTE is likely to be completed by about 2012.
