New vehicle registration & licensing scheme by 2006

Vehicle Information And Services At Your Fingertips!

Development of the new Vehicle Registration and Licensing System (VRLS) has been progressing well. System integration tests started in October 2004, and vehicle owners, buyers and dealers can look forward to using the system by the third quarter of next year.
VRLS, which will replace the existing system that is more than 20 years old, will provide LTA customers with a one-stop, fully integrated service for all vehicle-related transactions and enquiries.
To ensure that the new system meets the needs of the motor and finance industries, LTA met up with representatives from the various motor and finance associations regularly since development work began in 2002.
Recently, LTA organised more than 20 information sessions to explain the system?s main process flows and operational issues to representatives from the motoring industry.
Benefits of the new VRL system

To vehicle owners

  • No more paper vehicle log cards, rebate certificates and Public Service Vehicle licences
  • Easier to settle vehicle-related transactions with the use of SingPass or a computer identification name (userid) and password

To motor dealers

  • Streamlined work processes and higher efficiency by being able to register/transfer vehicles online
  • Savings on manpower resources and time since zero-visits to LTA are required
  • Faster turnaround time for their own customers
