     Apply for exit permits online

Under the Enlistment Act, a National Service (NS) liable person at the age of 16½ and above requires an Exit Permit (EP) to leave and remain outside Singapore.

He could apply for an EP at the Exit Permit Offices (EPO) at Central Manpower Base (CMPB) and SAFRA Tampines by fax, mail or through the Internet. He had to provide documentary proof certifying his education/ employment/overseas status. Once the application was approved, a hardcopy EP was then issued over the counter or sent to him by post.

  e-EP SYSTEM

On 18 Dec 2001, CMPB introduced a system for electronic EPs (e-EPs) to be issued. Applicants are not required to submit documentary proof at the time of application. However, to prevent abuse, only selected applicants may be required to furnish documentary proof for inspection as required by the EPO.

Applications for an e-EP can be made through:

  - the Internet at www.miw.com.sg

  - the Intranet (for NSF/Regulars only)

  - self-help terminals located at EPO, CMPB

Once an application is approved, an e-EP number is issued for future reference. No hard copy exit permit will be issued. Applicants can print the approval reply for record purposes, if required.

BENEFITS OF THE e-EP SYSTEM

  - Applicants will receive their EPs more quickly as they do not have to wait for the hard copies to be mailed to them. There is also no need for them to visit the EPO

  - Applicants can apply for the EPs online in the comfort of their homes or through the Intranet modules available at their units

  - Approval for the e-EP can be granted instantly. The system also allows applicants to print a hard copy of the approval

  - With e-EP, there will be no need for applicants to return the hard copy EP to EPO. However, they are required to update the system on the date of return

  - The new system will allow users to choose how EPO should notify them of their EP application status (if required) either via snail mail, e-mail or SMS.

Applicants are not required to provide documentary proof. However, they may be selected randomly to produce relevant documentary proof for verification.

The system is part of MINDEF initiatives to continuously explore and provide better services to those liable for NS.
